Language Essentials. We provide the foundational knowledge that all teachers need to understand the processes of decoding, reading fluency, and spelling. You will learn “the language of language” and gain in-depth knowledge of the five core language components of word study – phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, morphological knowledge, and mental word images. You can use this foundational knowledge to more effectively implement your school’s existing word study curriculum or to lay the groundwork for successful implementation of SPELL/SPELL-Links to Reading and Writing word study curriculum. The essentials of language are critical for word study: when all teachers are speaking the same language about language, students can too!

Integrity of Implementation. Students of teachers who implement SPELL/SPELL-Links with fidelity show nearly twice the improvement in word study skills when compared with students of teachers who do not achieve integrity of implementation. Our professional development staff partner with teachers, specialists, and parents to equip you with effective methods for word study instruction and intervention and to help you create the learning environment you need to accomplish your literacy goals. We’ll show you how to successfully implement and coordinate the SPELL/SPELL-Links word study solution across all student populations, teachers, grades, and between home and school. We’ll be there with you every step of the way – sharing current research, demonstrating best practice methods, guiding you through hands-on practice, answering your questions, helping you problem-solve obstacles unique to your students and setting. Our word study training for teachers of reading, writing, and spelling begins in our classroom and accompanies you to yours. We’ll demonstrate spelling, reading, writing, and vocabulary activities in your classroom with your students, join you in co-teaching, and be there to provide feedback and applause when you confidently and successfully implement SPELL/SPELL-Links' word study approach on your own.

Customized Services. We employ a multi-stage process to determine which word study professional development services and tools you need to enhance your effectiveness in the classroom or clinic. We begin with a review of your work setting needs, goals, and limitations and an appraisal of the professional qualifications and experience of your staff. From there, we carefully tailor a professional development plan to meet your specific needs and the needs of your students. Your professional development is delivered to you in a combination of venues – webinars, on-site workshops, and phone consultations.
